Steps in Making a Diaper Cake for Baby Shower

A diaper cake is a nice baby shower gift for an expectant mom. It’s basically a bunch of diapers and other baby items arranged to look like a tiered cake. It can be used to decorate the nursery while expecting the baby’s arrival. By then, the parents can use the diapers and the other items for the baby’s needs.

Another good thing about baby diaper cakes is that you won’t have to spend much because you can make your own diaper cake.

First, you are going to need about two regular packs of diapers, rubber bands, cardboard and colorful ribbons or bows to decorate the cake. Don’t forget the items you’d hide inside the cake such as pacifiers, washcloths, socks, mittens and baby supplies like shampoo, rash cream, lotions, and baby wash. Use dowels bought from a home improvement store instead of the ones from a craft store – they are cheaper. You will also need cellophane to wrap around the cake and keep it together.

For step by step instructions on how to make a diaper cake for baby shower, refer to the following.

  1. Roll up a diaper then wrap a rubber band around it to keep it from unrolling.
  2. Add 7 more rolled up diapers to the rubber band, with the first rolled up diaper serving as the center. This will be the top layer.
  3. For the middle layer, do the previous steps then add 15 rolled up diapers. Wrap a strong rubber band around them.
  4. For the base layer, make a middle layer then add 30 more rolled diapers around it, wrapping it with big rubber bands.
  5. Create a circular base by cutting one out from the cardboard, then place the largest layer over it..
  6. Remove one or two diapers (preferably near the center) and in their place, insert some baby items. Each layer should have several hidden gifts.
  7. Once all the layers are inserted with gifts, stack the layers together using one or two dowels inserted through the base layer. Make sure the dowels are between the diapers.
  8. Decorate the cake with ribbons and bows. It’s up to your creativity to make the decorations attractive.
  9. Finally, wrap the finished diaper cake with cellophane.

Just one warning: Do not use pins to hold the diapers together or to attach the items to the diapers. Unaware of the pins, the recipient might get accidentally jabbed when disassembling the cake.

Diaper Cakes: Unique and Practical Baby Shower Gift

If you’re like me and are looking for a practical yet unique gift to give your expectant friend, then you might also be interested in what is called a diaper cake. Yes, “diaper cake” it is called. I think it started a few years ago when diaper cakes for baby shower parties became the gift du jour and has somehow increased in popularity with the baby-shower crowd. I read it in passing because none of my friends were expecting then so I had no use for it. But now that I’ll be attending one in a couple of weeks and I don’t have a gift yet, that knowledge really comes in handy.

I really want to know who invented it. Was she like me, in need of a gift to bring to a baby shower? How did she see cakes in diapers? And who was the first recipient of this wonderful baby shower gift?

I, for one, think it’s such a great baby shower gift idea. I want one when it comes time for a baby shower for me. What else does a mother need besides baby bottles, right? I mean the mom can breastfeed. But babies poop and pee, and from the moment they are born, they will need diapers. And these diapers come in tiers, hence the cake in the name. Imagine coming into a baby shower with that three-tier creation in hand. Now that’s a grand entrance.

The best thing about these things is that you can make them. I really don’t have the extra $80 to buy a commercial diaper cake, but I do have the money to buy a couple of packs of diapers and some other extras to include in my self-made diaper cake. Not only do I save money, I will then have given the new mom something that I actually worked on.

Diaper cakes for baby shower gift ideas are probably one of the best ideas ever. Pretty, practical, and useful.

Giving a Great Baby Shower Gift

What’s a great baby shower gift to give the expectant parents?

That is the question most guests to a baby shower ask themselves. What makes it difficult to choose a baby shower gift is the sheer amount of things that you have to choose from. Gift givers today are given a ton of options especially when it comes to baby showers. It’s almost stressful, but why turn such a joyful event into a stress-fest?

Many people rely on the power of the gift basket when it comes to occasions such as this. A gift basket is truly a great idea to give, but how do you make yours unique, how do you set it apart from all the rest of the gift baskets that have been given and will be given? A way to do this is to decide on some sort of a theme for your baby shower gift basket.

Speaking of themes, modern baby showers usually have themes. You may want to coordinate the colors of your gift basket to the colors of the baby shower, but what we mean by baby shower gift basket themes has to do with the content rather than what it looks like. However, it wouldn’t hurt if you coordinate the appearance of your gift basket with the rest of the baby shower. The new parents will surely appreciate this attention to detail.

You can put pretty much anything you want in a gift basket, but deciding on some sort of theme would actually make your baby shower gift basket much more appealing. For example, you can give a Sleep Time gift basket. Its contents would be a nice teddy bear and a baby blanket. You can even further personalize this by having the yet-to-be-born baby’s name embroidered, or at least give the parents the option of having it embroidered in the future. If the baby shower has a Noah’s Ark theme, for example, you can choose a blanket that has the same design aesthetic (animals, ark) or decorate your basket accordingly. This is one idea.

Another is a Meal Time theme, and this would contain anything from baby bottles, sippy cups, baby spoons, baby bowls, anything that could be used in baby’s meal time. You could even put in a breast pump in there so the mother can express some milk for storage, as well as some bibs and towels to help clean up any meal time mess.

There are so many possible baby shower gift basket themes that you can conceptualize and make a gift basket from, but do remember that the best baby shower gift baskets are those that come from the heart. It doesn’t have to be extravagant as long as you put your heart into it.

Welcoming a child into the world is truly a joyous event, and so the gifts that people bear to a baby shower reflect just that. A popular baby shower gift is the gift basket, though there are still many ways that you can make it unique and truly your own.

Many gift basket companies offer baby shower gift baskets that have different contents and you can certainly choose among them. There are many pretty cute and unique ones online and they deliver fast. Another popular baby shower gift is the diaper cake, which is like a gift basket in many ways because it comes with it some small baby stuff (toys, trinkets, etc.) other than the diapers. For a truly unique and personalized baby shower gift, you can try putting together your own gift basket. This could be a lot of fun and it’s a great thing that you could choose for yourself what goes into the baby shower gift basket.

Once you pick a container that is sturdy enough to hold what you plan to put, you now move forward to actually purchasing items to put inside. Here are some suggestions on what you could put in your personalized baby shower gift basket:

• Baby bottles – it’s best to put around 2 standard sized baby bottles and 1 smaller one for water. When choosing baby bottles, make sure they are made from safe, non-toxic materials.
• Story books – While a newborn may not be old enough to understand any of the stories, at least the baby will have some good story books when he or she is old enough to be read to. Instill the love of books to a child. Equip your gift baskets with the classics like fairy tales and Dr. Seuss books.
• Baby care stuff – items used in baby care are thoughtful items to put into your gift basket. Things like burp cloths, wipe cloths, teething rings, diapers, rash cream, booties, bibs, baby wipes, Vaseline, socks, that sort. These are usually the things a new mother and baby need but people don’t give often enough.
• A plush toy or rubber ducky – every baby shower gift basket needs a touch of a whimsical childhood. Who knows, that toy may be the baby’s favorite toy.
• A card – let the mother know your well wishes for her and the baby and send a lot of love on her way.

Line your container with paper or tissue and arrange your items. You can cover it in mesh or just simply tie a ribbon around the container and there you have it – a baby shower gift basket that’s a labor of love. I’m sure the mom-to-be will appreciate it.

Have You Decided Upon a Baby Shower Gift Yet?

It has often been said that an expecting mom is the happiest person in the world, being blessed with the opportunity of giving birth to a little angel. In anticipation of the arrival of the new baby, a baby shower gift could be one of the most vaulable gifts a new mom could ask for.

baby shower gift

Though not all that common, it is possible to hold the baby shower after the baby is born; there would be some advantages in doing that. Plus it would be little easier selecting a baby shower gift if the baby shower were held after the birth.

Be it as it may, higher percentages though have the baby shower before the baby’s birth. Shopping for a baby shower gift and items usually is very fun. There is an assortment of baby shower gifts that you can purchase for the baby, from baby consumables to playthings. Choosing the best baby shower gift can be a bit tricky, but to assists you in this pleasure I have provided some suggestions:

  • Buy something that the baby will use frequently.

Any mother knows how very valuable the necessities are with a newborn. You can never have too much in the way of baby ointments, baby lotions, diapers, wipes, baby powder, and other stuff, and place them all in a basket or any appropriate container. There is no way around it, all babies use diapers, and mom would ever be grateful for a box of diapers. I mean let’s face the facts, diapers are not cheap and this is a practical gift that any mom would love to have.

  • You can also add some medicines and vitamins for the baby.

There is nothing worse than seeing your newborn running a fever or having a stuffy nose. Another set of practical baby shower gifts would be an assortment of different infant medicines; these are invaluable in time of need and will be greatly appreciated.

  • Infant toys are always a huge hit.

There are many very good toys on the market now days, and many of them that teach children at very young ages. One thing to consider though is that mom will be very exhausted once the baby is born and you may want to consider a baby shower gift that will not make a lot of noise. Trust me when I say this that these can be very annoying to say the least.

A few suggestions that you may consider purchasing may include something that can be mounted on the crib. Suggestions can be baby tape player; one in which you can control the volume. Vibrator seats, swings, bouncy seats, high chairs, or walkers are very valuable and have the added advantage of allowing for some free time for mom.

  • Buy some cute clothes.

Although this could be risky since you don’t know the gender the baby will be, or its weight upon birth. Try to buy rompers and shirts in medium sizes. This way you can be sure the baby can wear what you bought at least a few times.

baby shower gifts

It is usually a good idea to buy a baby shower gift of clothing that is a neutral color, usually pastels work for either gender. Don’t buy clothes that need ironing because that’s added task for moms and you wouldn’t want that, of course. Buy a baby shower gift that can be useful for mommy. Gifts assisting moms caring for the baby are such good ideas. For instance, you can buy a baby carrier or slinger.

It is very helpful for moms to get some cooking or cleaning done while carrying the baby. Another very helpful device you can buy is a diaper genie to help keep the smell down from used diapers.

  • Buy something for moms too.

While it is true that baby showers are for the babies. There is nothing that says moms can’t enjoy a bit of fun too, so why not buy her something as well. With all the excitement that they feel towards giving birth, a personal gift can do wonders. You can give gift certificates to shops at the mall. You can give moms books or magazines about parenting. You can give them coupons from a Laundromat or a professional house cleaner.

You can prepare for them a dinner for one night and send it over. Or better yet, give delivery stubs from pizza parlors so in the event dinner can’t be cooked, food can be driven over. Baby showers are held to welcome the baby to the world. Sometimes, baby showers are held only for the first-born.

It would be nice to have a shower for each of your new born children so as to help that the baby to feel well received and wanted even from the mommy’s womb. Babies are cute little blessings that families are blessed with. Let’s greet them with a celebration and gifts, what could be more fun?

Cool Baby Shower Themes: Rubber Duckie Baby Shower

If you’re planning to host a baby shower and want a fun idea that symbolizes the innocence of early childhood, consider using a rubber duckie theme. The rubber duckie is timeless and can be very versatile in decorating. Keep reading for our ideas on how to incorporate this cool theme into your next baby shower.

Invitations

This is the first opportunity you have to let your guests in on the theme of the party. Look for invitations with ducks on them, or if you’re feeling creative try creating your own invitations either by hand or with a computer.

Centerpieces

The options for centerpieces are endless! You could use a large glass bowl filled with water and have a large duckie or a few small duckies floating in it. This is also a great option for decorating side tables, using smaller bowls. To add more interest, add some decorative colored stones or even some plastic fish tank plants.

Another centerpiece option is to have a pair of small childrens rubber boots with a small glass in each one. Fill the glasses with water and an assortment of small flowers such as coral bells, pansies, carnations, babies breath, or freesias. The boots will tie in with your rubber duckie theme quite well since ducks are often linked with rainy weather.

Napkins

Scout the stores for napkins with rubber ducks on them. Also, pick up paper plates that match one of the colors in the napkins like yellow or orange. A bright color is best and will help to remind your guests that you are celebrating birth and childhood, when bright colors are best!

The Dreaded Hat

Yes, every guest of honor dreads the hat that is inevitably created from the ribbons and bows scavenged from shower gifts. Instead of using the traditional paper plate, consider using a yellow rain hat!

Cake

Of course it needs to either have a duck on it or be in the shape of a duck! As well, come up with a corny phrase for the occasion to be written on the cake.

Punch Bowl

Forget adding fruit to the ice ring, instead wash up some small rubber ducks and let them float in the punch bowl.

Having any kind of theme for your shower will help to alleviate some of the pressure of entertaining guests while they take in their surroundings. It also helps a shy guest of honor cope with being the center of attention, in this case some of the focus would be drawn toward the duckies.

If you’ve decided to use this theme, go wild with it! Give a special prize to the first guest to sing the Sesame Street Rubber Duckie song! This is a baby shower and the more effort you put into it the more fun your guests and your guest of honor will have. The decorations don’t need to be expensive, a lot of these items can be purchased at a dollar store if you don’t already have them. A few rubber ducks will go a long way!
