Steps in Making a Diaper Cake for Baby Shower

A diaper cake is a nice baby shower gift for an expectant mom. It’s basically a bunch of diapers and other baby items arranged to look like a tiered cake. It can be used to decorate the nursery while expecting the baby’s arrival. By then, the parents can use the diapers and the other items for the baby’s needs.

Another good thing about baby diaper cakes is that you won’t have to spend much because you can make your own diaper cake.

First, you are going to need about two regular packs of diapers, rubber bands, cardboard and colorful ribbons or bows to decorate the cake. Don’t forget the items you’d hide inside the cake such as pacifiers, washcloths, socks, mittens and baby supplies like shampoo, rash cream, lotions, and baby wash. Use dowels bought from a home improvement store instead of the ones from a craft store – they are cheaper. You will also need cellophane to wrap around the cake and keep it together.

For step by step instructions on how to make a diaper cake for baby shower, refer to the following.

  1. Roll up a diaper then wrap a rubber band around it to keep it from unrolling.
  2. Add 7 more rolled up diapers to the rubber band, with the first rolled up diaper serving as the center. This will be the top layer.
  3. For the middle layer, do the previous steps then add 15 rolled up diapers. Wrap a strong rubber band around them.
  4. For the base layer, make a middle layer then add 30 more rolled diapers around it, wrapping it with big rubber bands.
  5. Create a circular base by cutting one out from the cardboard, then place the largest layer over it..
  6. Remove one or two diapers (preferably near the center) and in their place, insert some baby items. Each layer should have several hidden gifts.
  7. Once all the layers are inserted with gifts, stack the layers together using one or two dowels inserted through the base layer. Make sure the dowels are between the diapers.
  8. Decorate the cake with ribbons and bows. It’s up to your creativity to make the decorations attractive.
  9. Finally, wrap the finished diaper cake with cellophane.

Just one warning: Do not use pins to hold the diapers together or to attach the items to the diapers. Unaware of the pins, the recipient might get accidentally jabbed when disassembling the cake.

Available in different sizes and colors, helium-filled balloons add life to celebrations such as a child’s parties, wedding receptions, etc. Balloons are wonderful decorations. But there are more to balloons than meets the eye, especially in baby showers. Read these tips on baby shower balloons to learn more.

Decorations

Let the balloons reflect the meaning of the occasion. Decorate the place with specialty balloons shaped like feeding bottles, teddy bears, pacifiers and other baby-related stuff. The balloons may come in different colors or match the theme. Attach the balloons in the window sills, tables, chairs and other places inside the venue.

Game Props

It’s entertaining to incorporate balloons in baby shower games. One idea is to have each of the guests put a balloon inside their shirt to simulate pregnancy. Then have them race to pick some items, say playing cards, on the floor without bursting their balloons. Whoever picks the most items in two minutes without bursting his or her balloon is the winner. Well, that’s just one idea. I’m sure you can think of other equally fun games.

Gifts

Balloons can add statement to gifts. If you are presenting the mom-to-be with a gift basket, attach small balloons around the basket for added color and design.

Another thing, don’t forget to place some baby shower balloons outside along with streamers to let the guests know which house on the block is hosting the baby shower. Seeing the balloons will surely make them feel as excited about the baby shower as the mom-to-be.

Finding the Right Words: Wording for Baby Shower Invitations

June 16, 2010 by author

Deciding on the proper wording for baby shower invitations shouldn’t really be a daunting task. Baby showers are usually gatherings of light fun, with the atmosphere more casual than formal, so the wording for baby shower invitations to be sent really shouldn’t put that much of a pressure on the organizer. One shouldn’t get a headache from thinking of the perfect combination of words. It is good to remember that there are a lot of sources, particularly online ones.

You may want to start with a cute verse or rhyme just to set the mood. Part and parcel of a baby shower is its cuteness, so whatever cute rhyme or verse you remember from childhood (a nursery rhyme for example) may work well in this situation. You may also want to quote something from a favorite inspirational author. Or for a not-so-serious effect, you may want to go the way of Dr. Seuss and lift a few rhymes from him. Everybody will appreciate a familiar rhyme and it won’t be hard to find a Dr. Seuss line that’s relatable to the party about to come.

After cleverly setting the mood, the details now start to come in. This is when you tell people the Who-What-Where-How details of the party. Baby shower invitations, in this aspect, are much like any other invitations. Don’t forget to put details of where to RSVP and other details like if you have a gift theme in mind, or colors that the gifts should come in or what participants should wear. Something along the lines of:

The time is coming

Mom’s almost due

And what we know

Is that it’s definitely blue!

Come join us in celebrating Chris and Joy’s baby boy!

19 April at 3:00 PM

1457 Redlane Drive

Santa Barbara, California

RSVP to Paula Jones (805) 555-1234

Chris and Joy are registered at Baby Gap

From there you can get more creative. Don’t stress too much on the wording. This baby shower’s going to be a blast and you know it already.

The Best Baby Shower Gifts to Give an Expectant Mother

Racking your brain for the best baby shower gift? What exactly are the best baby shower gifts in town? Having been to several of my girlfriends’ baby showers, I can safely say that the best baby shower gifts are the ones that the mother can use. Toys are cute, but it’s the practical and useful items that are best appreciated. Below, the best baby shower gifts an expectant mother can receive:

Baby Monitor – First-time parents will greatly appreciate the peace of mind with knowing that even if they’re not in the room, they can perfectly hear their baby’s every gurgle and respond to his cries when he does. Being a first-time parent is nerve wracking and a baby monitor provides a blanket of security when it comes to knowing their baby’s welfare.

Diaper Cake – This oddly-named gift is one of the more popular baby shower gifts on the planet. What exactly is it? It is a collection of diapers assembled together in such a way that it resembles a three-tier cake. You can purchase one or make it yourself. These diaper cakes look pretty enough to eat and the new mom will love her supply of diapers for her little one.

Bath Kits – talk about something useful and practical! Bath kits are one of the most practical and useful baby shower gifts one can give. It gives parents less to think about by including the essentials like fluffy towels, baby soap, baby shampoo, bath sponges, and the like.

Baby Seat/Stroller – generous giver? This is something that parents will surely appreciate and will really use. Take note that some research must go into what baby seat or stroller to buy but when you do find one, you’ll surely be the star of the baby shower.

Baby Clothes – onesies, baby pajamas, bibs, little t-shirts, baby socks – these are the things that will come in handy especially when the parents are too busy to buy new ones. Clothes will always be needed and appreciated.

The list goes on and on, and the common thread with these items is their practicality and usability. I’m sure if you bring any one of these gifts, the new mom will surely thank you.

Need Ideas for Baby Shower Games?

Baby showers are done so that friends and family of the mom-to-be are able to share the joy of the impending arrival. It usually gives the mom-to-be a respite from all the doctor’s appointments and the classes that she has to take. And besides, who needs an excuse to party?

Baby shower games are part and parcel of any baby shower. It’s one way to keep the party going and to amuse the new mom, of course. If you are the one organizing the baby shower, racking your brain for some ideas for baby shower games is something that you may not like given the many things you may already be thinking off. But don’t fret, we have several baby shower games for you and your friends to enjoy.

As you already know, baby shower games are of course baby-themed. Here are a few suggestions to keep the baby shower going:

· List as Many Baby Items As You Can – for this you will need a pen and a pad of paper. Give the women 3-5 minutes to list as many baby items (booties, diapers, baby bottles) as they can. The one who can list the most number of baby items in that span of time wins. Of course this sounds easy, but wait till the last few minutes and watch the woman cram their heads.

· Pin the Baby on the Mommy – some versions of this game call for a paper baby cutout to be taped nearest to the mom-to-be’s belly, but that sounds too easy. Let’s just go the way of Pin the Tail on the Donkey and let the participants pin a paper belly cutout to a silhouette of the pregnant form. The one who pins the baby closest to the tummy wins!

· The Baby Bottle Drinking Game – not exactly what you’re thinking but somehow exactly as you are thinking. Fill a baby bottle with soda, juice, or iced tea and have the participants have a drink-off. The one who finishes first wins. This is a totally fun game and will surely have everybody laughing.

· Guess the Baby Food – take the labels off some jars of commercial baby food and have the participants guess what it is (carrot, sweet potato, etc). The one who guesses the most number of baby food right wins. Best played with 10 different kinds of baby food.

Other baby shower games can be derived from birthday party games or bridal shower games. It only takes a little to be creative, and who knows, you may be inventing the next baby shower game craze.

Diaper Cakes: Unique and Practical Baby Shower Gift

If you’re like me and are looking for a practical yet unique gift to give your expectant friend, then you might also be interested in what is called a diaper cake. Yes, “diaper cake” it is called. I think it started a few years ago when diaper cakes for baby shower parties became the gift du jour and has somehow increased in popularity with the baby-shower crowd. I read it in passing because none of my friends were expecting then so I had no use for it. But now that I’ll be attending one in a couple of weeks and I don’t have a gift yet, that knowledge really comes in handy.

I really want to know who invented it. Was she like me, in need of a gift to bring to a baby shower? How did she see cakes in diapers? And who was the first recipient of this wonderful baby shower gift?

I, for one, think it’s such a great baby shower gift idea. I want one when it comes time for a baby shower for me. What else does a mother need besides baby bottles, right? I mean the mom can breastfeed. But babies poop and pee, and from the moment they are born, they will need diapers. And these diapers come in tiers, hence the cake in the name. Imagine coming into a baby shower with that three-tier creation in hand. Now that’s a grand entrance.

The best thing about these things is that you can make them. I really don’t have the extra $80 to buy a commercial diaper cake, but I do have the money to buy a couple of packs of diapers and some other extras to include in my self-made diaper cake. Not only do I save money, I will then have given the new mom something that I actually worked on.

Diaper cakes for baby shower gift ideas are probably one of the best ideas ever. Pretty, practical, and useful.

The baby shower cake has been the centerpiece of many a baby shower. It can set the theme or mood of the party and provide amusement to the festivities. When I’m in need of a quick recipe or idea for a baby shower cake, I turn to the one and only Martha (Stewart, that is).

We all know the domestic goddess has plenty of things up her sleeve for all occasions under the sun. I’ve bookmarked a lot of her recipes and come to them when I need something fast and reliable. Here are some of my go-to recipes for baby shower cake parties:

Nesting Baby Bluebird Cupcakes first off, aren’t these adorable and perfect for a baby shower? A tier of these cupcakes are sure to be a hit. Cupcakes are the in thing to do these days because of their convenience. You can even take this cupcake recipe and run away with it in terms of design.

Baby Bootie Cakea classic theme taken to new creative heights. Most baby shower attendees are used to the baby bootie theme, usually gumpaste or fondant booties placed on top of a cake, but I bet most of them have not seen a baby bootie cake just yet! You can change the colors to your taste and the gender of the child. The recipe makes 8 cakes, so there’s plenty to get around.

Mini Almond Bundt Cakesperfect for moms-to-be who don’t really want the baby theme permeating every inch of the event or those who aren’t really big on fondant and other traditional sweet confections. While this also has icing, the amount can be controlled according to preferences.

S’mores Mini Cakes – who doesn’t like s’mores? They bring you back to childhood summers spent in camp. These ones are extra fun because they look like 3-tier cakes. Great fun even for adults.

You may also go to your favorite brownie or sheet cake recipe and make your own version of the ones above. They may serve as your inspiration for your future baby shower cake needs.

Planning a Theme Baby Planning a Theme Baby Shower

Themes for baby shower are plentiful, thanks to the really creative ones (party planners and other creative folk) before us who have done baby showers we never thought possible. In the first place, who else would have thought of themes but party planners? A theme helps you narrow down your choices in terms of decorations, invitations, favors, the centerpiece, even the food.

Baby showers often have an element of whimsy. And while the celebration is revolve around the impending birth of a child, keep in mind that baby showers are typically adult events and that the aesthetic, though whimsical, must still appeal and cater to adults. Sites such as this one have some recommendations coming from real people. You may want to check out what they have to say and pick out some ideas there.

When you are thinking about the decorations for a baby shower, supposing you already picked out a theme, you may also be thinking about which centerpiece to use. The popular idea is to use the baby shower cake as the focal point of the event and the table. For sure, the cake’s design reflects the theme, right? If not a cake, some people may opt for cupcakes on trays. These are beautiful as well. Another “cake” that people use as centerpieces are diaper cakes, which are diapers and other baby stuff made to form a two- or three-tier cake. Diaper cakes can range from the simple to the simply enormous. These can be bought ready-made at gift shops or you can try crafting one by buying the supplies needed (diapers, ribbon, various baby items) and assembling it yourself.

And when the baby shower’s over, give your guests something to remember this party by. Baby shower party favors could be food or little trinkets or whatever you deem fit. They usually are a small reminder of what the party was like, and hence they have to tie together with the theme. Common giveaways are food such as cookies, candy, or cupcakes since they are the easiest to decorate to go with the theme and are relatively inexpensive.

What’s a Good Baby Shower Gift?

May 9, 2010 by author

Whenever I go to baby showers, I always wish I was in the receiving end of the gifts because those baby shower gifts are the most thoughtful gifts ever. I don’t think there’s ever a party where the gifts have been given so much thought. It’s nice to know that people really think about the gifts they’re going to give to the mom-to-be and also the newborn. But as much thought that goes into each present, some of us are stumped on what to give. Of course we want to give a great gift, the best gift even, but there are simply times when the gift-thinking part of our brain just ceases to work.

But worry no further because we have several gift suggestions here that are sure to be a hit at that baby shower you are attending.

Diaper Genie
Often the practical gifts are the biggest hits during baby showers because you actually gave something that can be of great use to both mother and baby. A diaper genie assures easy and nearly odorless disposal of those dirty diapers (there’s sure to be many of that in the months to come). Having a system that makes sure your baby’s nursery doesn’t smell like baby poop is a great gift indeed.

Baby Bjorn Carrier
It really doesn’t have to be the Baby Bjorn brand, but why not get the best while you’re at it? The Baby Bjorn infant carrier allows the parents to be with their baby, carrying them safe and close to them, but letting them have their hands free to do other things.

Diaper Cake
It’s a somewhat unusual gift that is really starting to rise in popularity. The diaper cake is literally made out of diapers and arranged so that it will look like a two- or three-tier cake. It can also include some small baby-related stuff like toys and rattles, but the diapers are the main attraction. These could also serve as baby shower centerpieces because these tend to be very big. These are great gifts because for one, you can never have too many diapers, and second with the right packaging it could look really great and be a main attraction in the baby shower.

Baby Care Essentials
Anything from baby bath shampoo, baby wipes, burping cloths, bibs, and baby bottles will definitely be great gifts to give to any expectant parent. These are the stuff that usually run out fast and gets used often, so having a steady supply will truly be appreciated.

Baby Clothes
Though it is most likely that baby clothes will be the most numerous gift in the baby shower, all of them are very much appropriate gifts to give. As a rule, it is better to give clothing gifts in larger sizes so the baby can use them in the future. Weather-appropriate baby clothes are also great. Buy sizes that are approximate to the age the baby will be when the season comes, say, if the baby is born in the summer, he or she will be about 4-6 months in the wintertime. You should buy winter baby clothes in that age range then.
